Hello to all our members in Local 432
The first Pink Slip Day was July 14th and this is the only the beginning of PINK SLIP DAYS. The impact of July 14th was 19 colleagues in Kingston, 57 in Region 4 and 274 across Ontario - did you know that 90% of the members impacted were women in administrative positions? The most recent target # provided by the government is 1900 positions with this number changing from 1500 to 5000 - are you prepared if your position is attacked? Ask your local steward for more information.
Cuts Hurt Us All has become a reality for many in Kingston and across Region 4. The campaign is in full swing and we are asking you to get involved to fight for your position or the position of your work colleague. Check out the mini-site to get the latest updates on lay off notices and actions. Get involved. Get informed. Be prepared should your position be targeted either by surplus or by another member that may need to continue working to support their family.
Thank you to all Region 4 members who attended the information picket at MPP Gerretsen's office on July 15th, check out the article from EMC titled The Grim Reaper in our FAQ/Information section.
As we move toward the provincial election we suggest reading the Jump Into the Election Conversation letter from Smokey Thomas. Let candidates know the impact of the job cuts to the services available in our communities. Attend campaign events and ask candidates who will help Ontarians when cuts to jobs and cuts to services happen? Who will help local communities, businesses and municipalities when there are job losses? .
General Membership Meeting will be September 13th in Kingston, 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm and our Regional Executive members will be in attendance. Meet your Region 4 representatives and your union president Smokey Thomas, David Lundy and Chris Cormier. Submit your questions for the OPSEU president through the website email link. Please RSVP through the email link by August 31st and this will give us an estimate of how many members will be attending. Light refreshments will be available.
