Hello Sisters and Brothers,

As the summer closes Labour Day is upon us. Please ensure your members attend various labour day activities around region 4. Follow the link to all Labour Day Events around Ontario. Please note Kingston, Cornwall and Ottawa are hosting events on Monday.

We want to ensure OPSEU is well represented please encourage your members to come out and attend and enjoy the events.

At our Region 4 Leadership meeting held August 27 & 28th in Cornwall, we came up with action plans and created questions for candidates to help apply pressure to protect public services. The complete package will be emailed out shortly to Local Presidents. In the interim, please pass on congratulations and support to our Regional Vice President David Lundy and Chief Steward of Local 462, David Parkhill who will both be running for office for the NDP in their ridings. David Lundy, Leeds & Grenville, will be hosting his grand opening of his campaign office on Friday September 2nd at 3pm. It is located at 3506 Coons Road, Unit 6 in Brockville. Please come out on Friday to attend! David Parkhill will be running in Larnark, Frontenac, Lennox and Addingtion. If you are interested in assisting either candidate, please contact David Lundy at Cell 613 213 1953 or David Parkhill at dparkhill@cogeco.ca or 613 539 9726. Both will do an excellent job putting public services first in Region 4. Please be prepared for various emails to attend all candidate meetings to stand up for public services.OPSEU will be making sure our issues become election issues during this election.

Rally To Safeguard Public Health Care For People, Not For Profit to be held at Queen's Park, Toronto - Tuesday, September 13, 12 o'clock noon. In this October's provincial election we need clear commitments to safeguard local health care services and improve access to care. We will be inviting each of Ontario's political parties to attend and make clear commitments to all of us on key issues to protect and improve. We need a strong showing to show politicans of all stripes that our public healthcare system needs improvements and not privatization. Please RSVP to Dave or Chris to save your seats. REGION 4 will be sending a bus to the Rally, the schedule for bus pick up is listed below:

  • Smiths Fall at 6:00 am Healey Parking lot
  • Brockville 6:45 am Wal Mart Parking lot
  • Kingston 7:40 am arrive Days Inn Parking lot off of Division Street near 401 leaving 7:50
  • Belleville Arriving 8:50 am Quinte Mall Parking lot leaving 9:00am
  • Arrive downtown Toronto at Queens park 11:00 am or later depending on traffic, Attend Rally
  • Board Bus for return home 1:30 pm leaving downtown 1:45 pm
  • Arrive in Belleville no later than 3:00 pm
  • Kingston 3:00 to 345 pm
  • Brockville 4:00 or 4:15pm
  • Smiths Falls 5:00 pm
Our Members in CAAT SUPPORT are on strike as of Today, September 1st. Please stop by a picket line in Ottawa, Kingston or Belleville to show your support. These folks are on the frontline of fighting concessions. We need to show the Colleges that Solidarity Works.

We still have our members in developmental services struggling to achieve a contract. Region 4 will be hosting a lunch time rally at Madeline Meilleur's MPP campaign office on September 23rd . Details will be sent to Local Presidents and if you are interested in attending, please reply via the email link to express your interest and location.

We want to pass on our sympathy and prayers to the family & friends of long time OPSEU member and union activist Elaine Jeffery, Local 480 President, Quinte Healthcare Corporation. You will be missed Elaine!
