Hello to all members of Local 432,
Take a few minutes to review the upcoming November 2011 Educational offerings, contact your steward or executive member if you are interested in attending.
Check out the main OPSEU webpage for election details to help make your decision on October 6th-- http://www.opseu.org/electionquestions/index.htm If you plan on attending an all candidate meeting or event, ask a few of the questions to the candidates to help you decide on the best choice that will support public services.
Look in the FAQ/Info section of the site for the local Kingston area voting locations & hours of availability -- make your voice heard in this election! Use the OPSEU website link election questions section and send the same question to the 4 main party candidates in your area -- let them know we are concerned, we are active and that we want answers! We have many issues to address in this election, get involved, get informed and show your support.
In the Kingston area we have a few OPSEU members who are NDP candidates in this election, Dave Parkhill is in Frontenac, Lanark, Lennox & Addington and David Lundy in Leeds & Grenville. Show your support of these members and any other union friendly candidates by attending support rallies or donating to their campaigns of change.
Take a look at their campaign websites,
Look through the Challenging Austerity booklet to gain Questions and answers for supporters of good jobs, quality public services, and healthy unions in Ontario -- http://www.opseu.org/notices/Challenging-Austerity-Booklet_d.pdf
This is our opportunity to show the people of Ontario what can happen when we mobilize, when we vote for our future of good jobs and how OPSEU can make changes happen!
Good luck to our BPS members as they work towards a new contract and attend their demand setting conference in early October.
At the General Membership meeting held on September 13th we had several members in attendance and of course we would always like to see more representatives of our multi-ministry Local. The members got to hear an update on the website, an update on our financial position, news about the bylaw updates and had the opportunity to speak directly with Executive Board Member Chris Cormier. Our special guest list changed as President Smokey Thomas had to attend a support rally in Thunder Bay with our college worker colleagues and Regional Vice President David Lundy was scheduled for an election event as the candidate for Leeds & Grenville. We hope to arrange for a meeting with Smokey at a later date, hopefully when none of our sisters & brothers are walking a picket line!!
We have received an update from Roxanne Barnes the CERC chair -- information for all of us and an overview of the great work they are looking at on our behalf. This update is the result of a request made at MERC and All President meetings to get more information out to our members and let folks know that concerns are being listened to, worked on and OPSEU is moving forward! View in our FAQ/Info Section.
